Our Pianist, Christa Brady
Christa Brady has been the pianist at FCUCC since 2017. She also works at Knox Community Hospital’s Urgent Care Center and as piano accompanist for Kenyon College and MTVarts. Christa lives in Mount Vernon with her husband Nick and their four children: Emily, Sarah, Gwen, and Leo. In the rare instance of free time, she enjoys gardening and cooking.
Rev. Dr. Mearle L. Griffith
Resident Pastor of Community Outreach
Rev. Mearle Griffith serves First Congregational United Church of Christ as a volunteer Resident Pastor of Community Outreach. His re- sponsibilities include representing FCUCC on community outreach such as working with Interchurch Social Services and other mission fields. We are so grateful he has volunteered to do this work!
Pastor Mearle earned a Master of Divinity degree from The University of Dubuque Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry degree from United Theological Seminary. He was also awarded an Honorary Doctor of Divinity from Rust College for service to the Church and World.
Before “retiring” Mearle worked at all levels of The United Methodist Church for more than 45 years. He has led churches in extensive growth in mission and outreach. He has pastored local congregations in Iowa, Illinois and Ohio, including North Broadway United Methodist Church in Columbus, Church of the Saviour in Cincinnati, Earlville Cooperative Parish (UCC and UMC) and Berwick United Church of Christ in Des Moines, Iowa.
Pastor Mearle also served in denomination-wide leadership as President and CEO of the United Meth- odist Association of Health and Welfare Ministries; as Associate General Secretary with the General Council on Ministries and as Director of Communication for the Iowa Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church. He received the Herbert Manning Service Award from the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary for distinguished service.
In addition, Pastor Mearle was the founding Executive Director of the Iowa United Methodist Founda- tion and has also chaired development committees of the boards of Rust College, Methodist Theological School in Ohio and United Theological Seminary. Pastor Mearle has experience with United Methodist related children’s homes and senior living organizations. He has served on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of Asbury Communities, based in Germantown, MD and has served on the devel- opment staff of the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home.
Pastor Mearle resides in Mount Vernon with his wife Mary Jane Batchelder Griffith, a retired educator. The couple have two adult daughters, Maria and Marci and two granddaughters, Mary Sophia and Ava Jane.
