Popular Christian and pop singers Jason and deMarco in concert in Mount Vernon!

Sunday, September 27 at 6:30 p.m. at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 200 North Main, mvucc.org. No ticket needed, no entry charge, just love offering.

The duo are married fathers of twin sons and leaders in the LGBTQ Christian movement. They are also committed activists for homeless and foster youth and created the non-profit S.A.F.E. (Safe, Affirming, Family Environment) with a drop-in center for homeless youth. After just a few months of operation, data revealed that the majority of homeless young people were “aging out of” the foster care system and had nowhere to go. The center is on a small ranch in Franklin, Tennessee, near Nashville, where the public can support S.A.F.E. by adopting a farm animal (fosterafarmpet.org). The duo have big plans for expanding the center and its services and teaching formerly homeless youth life, community, trade, and work skills.

The ranch has seven miniature donkeys, two ponies, two goats, four chickens and Olivia, a teacup piglet. “Our goal is to provide a place where kids, youth, and adults can connect with one another while being in nature and escaping the craziness of life if even for a day,” says deMarco. “We just want the ranch and the animals to help people who may need a little extra love.” Jason and deMarco are becoming certified foster parents and their home will be an emergency placement for youth in foster care. They have performed at numerous high profile events including the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Awards in Los Angeles, the Matthew Shepard Foundation’s annual gala in Denver, and the 2006 Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Gala at the Waldorf Astoria New York. They perform on HRC’s star-studded benefit CD album celebrating marriage equality, “Love Rocks,” alongside Christina Aguilera, Pink, and The Dixie Chicks.
